This is an inspirational story of a girl from the slums of Katwe, who is dreaming of becoming a Grand Master in Chess.
While following her brother, Phiona reaches to a school premise where her brother Brian is learning a cardboard game called chess. She starts going there so that she can get some food. Slowly her trainer Robert Katende sees the potential in Phiona. He gets her to participate in few competitions.
Her experiences about first time getting full meal for the first time, then choosing food from a menu and many such comforts of life are eye openers. What we call as basic necessities, are luxuries for people living in the slums of Kampala.
This story is an example of what one can achieve if one decides. First half is little slow but second part is very gripping.
